GestureTek Mobile to Bring EyeMobile®-ENGINE™ Motion Control Technology to BREW® Publishers and Developers
BREW Extension Brings Gesture Capability to Any Camera-Equipped BREW Handset
SUNNYVALE, CA – May 31, 2006 – GestureTek Mobile, a division of GestureTek Inc., the world leader in computer vision gesture-based control for information and entertainment systems, today announced EyeMobile®-ENGINE™, developed for QUALCOMM’s BREW solution. GestureTek Mobile will showcase its products at booth #5 at the BREW 2006 Conference, being held May 31 – June 2 in San Diego.
GestureTek’s patented Video Gesture Control technology – licensed by industry leaders such as Microsoft for its XBOX 360 Gaming Console Live Vision Camera, Sony Computer Entertainment for its PlayStation2™ EyeToy™ and Hasbro for its Playskool ION Educational Gaming System – now comes to BREW camera phones.
The EyeMobile®-ENGINE seamlessly delivers real-time motion control using the device’s camera. Unlike costly and limited hardware-based sensors, the BREW EyeMobile®-ENGINE is a pure software (middleware) solution, readily and seamlessly delivered over the air as a BREW extension.
“Following on the heels of our company’s most recent announcement as software partner for Microsoft’s XBOX 360 Live Vision Camera, GestureTek now brings its motion control technology to wireless handsets,” said Francis MacDougall , President of GestureTek Mobile. “Working with QUALCOMM is a major benefit for us, as the BREW solution provides a tremendous platform for delivery of our middleware solution to the global wireless publisher and developer community.”
“EyeMobile®-ENGINE is an innovative capability for mobile gaming and other applications where simple hand gestures can become the user interface,” said Mike Yuen, Senior Director of the Gaming Group for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “This extension is an attractive choice for BREW publishers and developers looking to create a compelling experience for consumers. QUALCOMM looks forward to seeing the first set of BREW games and applications that take advantage of the EyeMobile®-ENGINE.”
Any application can take advantage of EyeMobile®-ENGINE’s motion control features. All game actions, from driving, flying, shooting and fly-casting, to a simple roll of the dice, can be controlled naturally and intuitively through hand motion. A simple and intuitive API provides BREW developers with the means to build motion control into their applications in a manner similar to present analog control interfaces (e.g., keys, buttons, etc.).
“…Gesturetek has invented a technology that lets any camera-phone act like a joystick … your hand controls the movement of a cursor on the screen … That movement can propel a ball through a maze, as in its TiltaWorld demo … it's like an old-fashioned handheld game, only electronic. Now that's handy.”
— Lauren Aaronson, Associate Editor of Popular Science Magazine.
